The mountain Oybin is probably the best known mountain of the Zittauer highlands. In the 13th century a fortress and escort castle was situated at the Oybin as important trade routes went past here. The first castle was pulled down by the townZittau because the owner as robber-knights and highwayman made the area unsafe. In the 14th century castle and monastery facility were built on the Oybin.
